Why do I need new brake rotors?
Usually
for one of two reasons.
1.They have worn below the legal minimum thickness stamped on the unit.
2.The rotors are warped due to excessive heat or from accident.
Brake rotors come in a wide variety of qualities and prices, so when looking at prices make sure you are comparing apples and apples, not apples and oranges.
Original equipment quality rotors come from suppliers such as Brembo, Raybestos, Mountain, etc, and are made of high quality iron with a fine finish, matching the quality of the units that came on the vehicle from the manufacturer. Brake part production is now a world-wide business, and many of these name brand units are made overseas in South America, Eastern Europe and China, and are top quality coming from brand new factories- there is no guarantee that choosing a US manufacturer will result in a domestic product.
Economy replacement rotors, most commonly produced in China or Hong Kong, tend to be of inferior metal and finish. They are, however, considerably cheaper than O.E .units- the choice is yours!!
